MIXE 02
Description
Background:
The Mixe people, known as the Ayuujk, meaning "people of the mountains," are an indigenous community native to the rugged Sierra Mixe region in Oaxaca, Mexico. With a history that spans centuries, the Mixe have preserved their language, customs, and traditional craftsmanship through deep-rooted cultural practices. Known for their resilience, they have maintained a strong connection to their land and ancestral traditions despite external influences. Mixe artisans are highly regarded for their skill in pottery, weaving, and other crafts, each piece reflecting their rich heritage and the enduring spirit of their people. The Mixe language, still spoken by many today, plays a central role in the transmission of their cultural knowledge, and each handcrafted item they create tells a story of cultural identity, resilience, and pride.
